Pennington County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1910 and named after Edmund Pennington, an executive of the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad. The county seat is Thief River Falls. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 14,118 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 618 square miles of which 617 square miles is land and 1.7 square miles is water. Pennington County borders the following counties: Marshall County to the north; Beltrami County to the east; Clearwater County to the southeast; Red Lake County to the south and Polk County to the west.Pennington County has seven zip codes.
