Le Sueur County, Minnesota Overview

Le Sueur County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1853 and named after Pierre-Charles Le Sueur, a fur trader and early explorer of the Minnesota River Valley. The county seat is Le Center. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 27,810 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 474 square miles of which 449 square miles is land and 25 square miles is water. Le Sueur County borders the following counties: Scott County to the north; Rice County to the east; Waseca County to the south; Blue Earth County to the southwest; Nicollet County to the west and Sibley County to the northwest. Le Sueur County Recorder’s Office Information

The County Recorder is the custodian of all legal records pertaining to real estate in the county. The County Recorder is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages and approximately 400 different real estate documents. The Le Sueur County Recorder is also the abstractor for the county. An abstractor compiles all the records pertaining to a certain piece of property in an abbreviated form. This is called an abstract. The Recorder’s Office creates new abstracts as well as continues existing abstracts. Certificates of Title are prepared under the Torrens system. The County Recorder is also the Registrar of Titles. The Recorder also records military discharges from all branches of the armed forces; vital statistics of birth, death, and marriages (beginning in 1870); bond oaths and appointments of county officials. The public may request certified copies of most documents filed in the Recorder’s Office.
