Lake County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1856 and named after Lake Superior, which forms one of its edges. The county seat is Two Harbors. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 10,777 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,991 square miles of which 2,109 square miles is land and 881 square miles is water. Lake County borders the following counties: Rainy River District, Ontario to the north; Cook County to the east; Ashland County, Wisconsin to the southeast; Bayfield County, Wisconsin to the south; Douglas County, Wisconsin to the south and Saint Louis County to the west. Lake County Recorder’s Office Information
The Lake County Recorder’s Office is the custodian of all legal documents that affect real estate. The County Recorder records, indexes and maintains records pertaining to real estate such as releases, contract for deeds, mechanic liens, state and federal tax liens, etc. The County Recorder also acts as the Registrar of Titles. The Registrar of Titles issues land title certificates on Torrens property. The Vital Records Department is also part of the Recorder’s Office which operates as a Local Issuance Office authorized by the Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records to issue certified birth and death records, and issues marriage licenses and certificates, records ordination credentials and notary commission registrations. The Lake County Recorder’s Office also functions as the repository for Military Discharge Records.
