Grant County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1868 and named after Ulysses S. Grant, the eighteenth president of the United States (1869-1877). The county seat is Elbow Lake. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 5,989 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 575 square miles of which 548 square miles is land and 27 square miles is water. Grant County borders the following counties: Otter Tail County to the north; Douglas County to the east; Pope County to the southeast; Stevens County to the south; Traverse County to the southwest and Wilkin County to the northwest. Grant County Recorder’s Office Information

The County Recorder is an elected position and is the custodian of all records pertaining to real estate, uniform commercial code, marriages, notary public registration, minister’s credentials, military discharge records and other miscellaneous records. The County Recorder is responsible for recording, filing, and safekeeping of various legal documents relating to Grant County. This office is also the Passport Agent for the U.S. Department of State. Most documents are public and can be viewed upon request.

Grant County Assessor’s Office Information

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for maintaining the estimated market value and classification of all taxable real and personal property within the Grant County for property tax purposes. The office values all of the tax-exempt properties in the County every 6th year. Values and classifications of properties are established as of January 2 of each year. Other responsibilities of the Grant County Assessor’s Office is conducting property tax splits, property ownership splits and combinations, transfer of ownership on tax records, maintaining records of previous years estimates of values, maintaining property descriptions, taxpayer addresses, property addresses, and processing all Certificates of Real Estate Values.
