Goodhue County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1853 and named after James Madison Goodhue, the first newspaper editor in Minnesota. The county seat is Red Wing. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 46,464 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 780 square miles of which 757 square miles is land and 24 square miles is water. Goodhue County borders the following counties: Pierce County, Wisconsin to the northeast; Pepin County, Wisconsin to the northeast; Wabasha County to the east; Olmsted County to the southeast; Dodge County to the southwest; Rice County to the west and Dakota County to the northwest. Goodhue County Recorder’s Office Information
The primary duty of the county recorder is to record all deeds, mortgages, liens, and other related instruments in connection with the real estate in Goodhue County. Other documents registered at the Goodhue County Recorder’s Office are estray notices, church records, articles of incorporation, federal and state tax liens, and plats. The Recorder’s Office also records financing statements which are public notices of liens on personal property, such as household goods, farm machinery, and crops. The Recorder’s Office also serves as a Registrar of Vital Statistics (birth, death, marriage), processes and renews passports, and records military discharge papers.
