Douglas County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1858 and named after Stephen Arnold Douglas, a former United States Senator from Illinois (1847-1861). The county seat is Alexandria. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 36,545 people. The County Assessor’s Office maintains an estimated value and a classification of approximately 30,000 parcels of Douglas County. There are primarily five classifications – residential, seasonal, apartment, agricultural, and commercial/industrial. All properties are either classified homesteaded or non-homestead.
