Located on the western border of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Van Buren County consists of 1,090 square miles, 482 of which is water. It is bordered to the north by Allegan County, the east by Kalamazoo County, the south by Cass County and the west by Lake County, Illinois. Approximately 75,455 people lived in the county during the 2013 census. The County Clerk for Van Buren County is responsible for maintaining all court files, vital records including births, deaths and marriages, supervising elections, assumed name certificates, notary public applications and concealed weapons permits. These records are not available online, however many of the forms needed to make a request are available online. Further information is available by in person request, during normal business hours.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for all information related to real and personal property within the county of Van Buren. These records are considered public record and therefore can be purchased or viewed from the office by in person request. There is a searchable index available online, however not all information has been updated and much will still need to be requested in person. Parcels are also able to be searched online.
