The County Clerk of St. Joseph County is responsible for maintaining vital records that include birth certificates, death certificates and marriage licenses. They are also responsible for concealed weapons permits, military discharges, personal protection orders, elections and assumed names and partnerships. These records are not available online, however there are forms for personal protection orders and legal name changes available online. These documents can be turned in and others requested in person, during normal business hours, or requested by email or phone.

The County Clerk serves as the Register of Deeds as well and under this role is responsible for recording, indexing and monitoring records related to real and personal property. These records include deeds, mortgages, liens, leases and more, related to property within St. Joseph County. Many of these documents are considered public record and are available for purchase or viewing by in person request, during normal business hours.
