Saginaw County, Michigan Overview
Located near the eastern border of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Saginaw County is 816 square miles, with only 16 of those comprised of water. Bordered to the north by Bay and Midland County, the east by Tuscola County, the west by Gratiot County and the south by Genesee, Shiawassee and Clinton Counties, Saginaw is named after a tribe that is believed to have once lived there. There were approximately 196,542 people living in the county during the 2013 census. The County Clerk is responsible for all vital records documents, which include marriage and divorce licenses and birth and death certificates. They are also responsible for personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, filing circuit and family court documents, notary public documents, collecting and disbursing fines and fees and assisting with genealogical research. Documents from the County Clerk are available in person upon request, though they are not available online. Forms to request documents can be found online however.
The Register of Deeds for Saginaw County is responsible for property related documents, which include plats of subdivisions, property descriptions, warranties, deeds, mortgages, liens and leases. These documents are considered public record and are available through online search. There are fees associated with the requests and copies of these documents. All can be requested in person, during normal business hours as well.
The equalization department is responsible for the taxable valuation of all property located within the county.
