The county is surrounded by Crawford, Oscoda and Kalkaska Counties to the north, Ogemaw County to the east, Missaukee County to the west and Gladwin and Clare Counties to the south. The County Clerk of Roscommon County is responsible for marriage licenses, birth and death records, assumed name certificates, co-partnerships, personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, circuit court filings and notary public documents. Forms to request a certified business registration are available online, as are CPL applications, however document searches cannot be done online as these documents are not available in this form. All requests must be made in person, during normal business hours.

The Register of Deeds is responsible for recording and filing documents that affect real property. They are also responsible for micro-filming instruments, land corners, uniform statutory fees, certificates of survey, warranty deeds, liens, leases and mortgages.
