Otsego County is located in the northern portion of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and consists of 526 square miles, 11 square miles of which are water. The county is surrounded to the north by Cheboygan County, the east by Montmorency County, the south by Crawford County and the west by Antrim County. The County Clerk of Otsego County is responsible for voter registration records, military discharges, personal protection orders, marriage licenses, birth and death records, assumed business names, concealed weapons permits and records searches. They are also responsible for circuit court filings and custody and support filings. These documents can be requested in person or by mail and Freedom of Information Act forms are available on the website. There is no method of gaining these documents through the online system however.
The Register of Deeds handles all documents that are related to property within the country including quick claim deeds, warranty deeds, mortgages, land records, liens and tract indexes. All of these documents are considered public record and are available for viewing and purchase by in person request. There is no way to access these documents online and all requests must be made directly to the office.
