Located in the upper portion of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Oscoda County is comprised of 572 square miles of total area with only 5.9 square miles of water. It is also the fifth-least populous county in the state. Oscoda County is bordered on the north by Montmorency County, the east by Alcona County, the south by Ogemaw County and the west by Crawford County. The County Clerk in Oscoda is responsible for recording all births, deaths, marriages and divorces as well as assumed business names. They are also responsible for voter registration records, military discharges, custody and support filings, record searches, personal protection orders and concealed weapons permits. These documents are not available online, however they can be requested in person from the County Clerk.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for documents that are related to real and personal property within the county. These documents can include deeds, mortgages, land records, liens and tract indexes, which are all considered public record. There are fees associated with filing as well as pulling any of these documents and each can be requested in person, from the Register of Deeds.
