Muskegon County, Michigan
Muskegon County is located in the state of Michigan. The county was formed in 1859 and named after the Muskegon River, which runs through it, empties into Muskegon Lake, and subsequently flows into Lake Michigan. Muskegon is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 172,188 people and a total area of 1,460 square miles, of which 961 square miles is water and 499 square miles is land. Muskegon County borders the following counties: Oceana County to the north; Newaygo County to the northeast; Kent County to the east; Ottawa County to the east and south; Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, to the southwest; and Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, to the west.
The Muskegon County Register of Deeds is responsible for maintaining legal documents relating to land records in the county. Some of the records maintained by the office of the Register of Deeds include but are not limited to plats, land contracts, condominiums, deeds, mortgages, liens, surveys, financing statements, related documents, and other miscellaneous real estate documents.
