Located near the northern border of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Montmorency County consists of 563 square miles of area with 16 square miles of water. Originally known as Cheonoquet- County, it is bordered to the east by Alpena County, the south by Oscoda County, the west by Otsego County and the north by Cheboygan and Presque Isle Counties. The County Clerk for Montmorency County is responsible for circuit court filings, vital records including birth, death and marriage records, election results, voter registration, concealed weapons permits, assumed name certifications, notary applications, military discharges and personal protection orders. These documents are available via in person request, during normal business hours. They are not available online and documents may incur a fee for retrieval.
