Macomb County, Michigan

Macomb County is located in the eastern portion of the state of Michigan. The county was formed on January 15, 1818, as the third county in the Michigan territory and named after Detroit-born Alexander Macomb, Jr., a hero of the Battle of Plattsburg, who became Commanding General of the U.S. Army in 1828 and a highly decorated veteran of the War of 1812. Warren is the largest city in the county, while the county seat is Mt. Clemens. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 840,978 people and a total area of 571 square miles, of which 92 square miles is water and 479 square miles is land. Macomb County borders the following counties: Lambton County, Ontario, Canada, to the southeast; St. Clair County to the northeast; Lapeer County to the northwest; Oakland County to the west; and Wayne County to the south.
