Luce County is located at the upper border of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and consists of 1,912 square miles of area. With the second smallest population of any Michigan County, there is approximately 899 square miles of land. It is bordered to the east by Chippewa County, the south by Mackinac County, the west by Alger County and the north by Thunder Bay District, Ontario. The County Clerk for Luce County is responsible for all vital records, which include birth, death and marriage records. They are also responsible for personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, election results, circuit and family court filings, assumed names information, notary public information, voter information and military discharges. All of these documents are available by in person request, though forms for the request are also available online. None of the documents can be searched online.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for deeds, mortgages, liens, leases and other property related matters dealing with real and personal property throughout the county. These documents are considered public record and can be requested at any time, through in person request. They are not available online, however they can be purchased otherwise. Schedules are available online for many of the fees associated with filing and purchasing copies.
