Leelanau County is located on the western edge of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and has approximately 2,532 square miles, 2,185 of which are water. Located on Lake Michigan, it is known for its 26 wineries. The county is bordered to the north by Schoolcraft County, the east by Antrim County, the south by Benzie County and the west by Door County, Wisconsin. The County Clerk for Leelanau County is responsible for all vital records including marriage and death certificates, birth records and divorce records. They are also responsible for all election records, payroll information for the county, concealed weapons permits, assumed name certificates, notary public commissions, military discharges and peddler’s licenses. All of these records, as well as circuit court records, are available by request at the County Clerk’s office. These records are not available online, though the fee schedule is.
