According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 602,622 people and a total area of 872 square miles, of which 25 square miles is water and 847 square miles is land. The Kent County Register of Deeds Office is charged with the responsibility of recording all documents relating to real property in the county. Records maintained by the office include but are not limited to deeds, mortgages, land contracts, liens, and other documents pertaining to real estate. Once the documents have been recorded, they can be obtained by doing a background check online or by visiting the office of the register in person during office hours. To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the Kent County Register of Deeds Website. You will be required to create an account before you can access public records. There is no charge to search the Register of Deeds index database; however, there is a charge of $1.00 per page, plus a convenience fee to view, print, or save documents.

When obtaining public records in person, present a completed records request form with details of the records you are requesting to the office of the register. The charges are the same as when you obtain records online.
