Kalamazoo County, Michigan

Kalamazoo County is located in the state of Michigan. The county was formed on May 7, 1830; the name if the county purportedly means “the mirage or reflecting river”, and the original Indian name was “Kikalamazoo”. The village of Kalamazoo (then known as Bronson) was made the county seat in 1831. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 250,331 and a total area of 580 square miles, of which 19 square miles is water and 562 square miles is land. Kalamazoo County borders the following counties: Barry County to the northeast, Allegan County to the northwest, Calhoun County to the east, Van Buren County to the west, Branch County to the southeast, St. Joseph County to the south, and Cass County to the southwest.
