Clinton County, Michigan
Clinton County is located in the state of Michigan. The county was formed in 1831 and organized in 1839. Clinton County was named after early American politician DeWitt Clinton. St. Johns is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 75,326 people and a total area of 575 square miles, of which 8.1 square miles is water and 566 square miles is land. Clinton County borders the following counties: Saginaw County to the northeast, Gratiot County to the north, Montcalm County to the northwest, Shiawassee County to the east, Ionia County to the west, Ingham County to the southeast, and Eaton County to the southwest.
The Clinton County Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Court, Registrar of Vital Records, County Election Commission, and the Plat Board. These duties and responsibilities are defined under the Michigan Constitution. On the other hand, the Register of Deeds is responsible for maintaining the land records system. The Register of Deeds also performs the following duties: passport processing, notarial services, record copying, and basic property record searches.
