County accounting records, birth, marriage and death records, military discharges, concealed pistol permits, payroll and employee benefits, election administration and circuit court records are all available through the County Clerk’s office. Documents are available for purchase through the county’s ‘Documents on Demand’ portal or are available by in person request at the office, during normal business hours.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for any and all legal instruments that are related to encumbrances of property or transfer of property that occur within the city limits. These include, but are not limited to, mortgages, assignments and discharges of mortgages, liens, surveys, probate orders, master deeds, plats, quit claim deeds, warranty deeds and tax and sheriff deeds. The majority of these records are considered public record and are therefore available by in person request or through the ‘Documents on Demand’ portal.
The Equalization Department for Charlevoix County is tasked with reviewing real as well as personal property assessments to make sure that they have been conducted properly and that they are assessed at the correct value. They are also responsible for assigning parcel identification numbers as well as 911 addresses, and maintaining legal descriptions and ownership records.
