Plymouth County, Massachusetts

Plymouth County is located in the state of Massachusetts. The county was formed in 1685 by the Plymouth General Court, the legislature of Plymouth Colony, predating its annexation by the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Brockton is the largest city in the county; the county has two seats: Brockton and Plymouth.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 494,919 people and a total area of 1,093 square miles, of which 434 square miles is water and 659 square miles is land, making it the third-largest county in Massachusetts by total area. Plymouth County borders the following counties: Norfolk County to the north, Barnstable County to the southeast, and Bristol County to the west.

The Plymouth County Registry of Deeds is charged with the responsibility of maintaining public records in the county. The Registry is the recording office for property transactions affecting the City of Brockton and the 26 towns in Plymouth County. The Registry of Deeds has over 17 million images maintained; these includes all recorded documents, land court certificates, plans, and many special collections.

To obtain a copy of your deed, you will need a Book and Page reference. If you have registered land, you will need a Certificate of Title Number. You will be required to use the  Mail Order Form. Account holders may use this form to charge full size plans  and certified copies; these would be mailed to you. If you do not have a reference, you will be required to call the assessor’s office for the town in which the property is located. After obtaining the reference, please visit the Registry of Deeds’ office, or send your request for a copy. The following are the charges for obtaining public records:
