Saint Mary’s County, Maryland

Saint Mary’s County is located in the state of Maryland. The county was formed on January 24, 1637, and named in honor of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Lexington Park is the largest community in the county, while Leonardtown is the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 105,152 people and a total area of 764 square miles, of which 407 square miles is water and 357 square miles is land, making it the second-largest county in Maryland by total area. Saint Mary’s County borders the following counties: Calvert County to the northeast, Charles County to the northwest, and Westmoreland County, Virginia, to the southwest.
