Harford County, Maryland

Harford County is located in the state of Maryland. The county was formed on December 17, 1773, and named after Henry Harford, the illegitimate son of Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore. Aberdeen is the largest city in the county, while Bel Air is the county seat.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 244,826 people and a total area of 527 square miles, of which 90 square miles is water and 437 square miles is land. Harford County borders the following counties: York County, Pennsylvania, to the north; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to the northeast; Baltimore County to the west; Cecil County to the east; and Kent County to the south.

The Harford County Clerk of the Circuit Court is charged with the responsibility of maintaining public records in the county. These documents are considered private documents, which means they can only be requested by those that they are actually about. This office is also responsible for property documents, which include mortgages, conveyances, land deeds and plats.
