Rapides Parish is located at the central part of Louisiana in the Crossroads Region. This land-locked Parish is 1,362 square miles in size of which 44 square miles is water. Rapides Parish is named after the rapids on the Red River. It is bordered by Grand Parish to the north, La Salle Parish to the northeast, Avoyelles Parish to the east, Evangeline Parish to the southeast, Allen Parish to the southwest, Vernon Parish to the west, and Natchitoches Parish to the northwest. The Clerk of the Court is responsible for information related to vital records (including birth, death and marriage records), personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, circuit and family court information, assumed names and military discharges. These documents are available to those that they are about but must be purchased. Some documents can be found through the E-Search portal but can also be requested in person.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for information related to property, both real and personal. This office handles all information related to warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, liens, leases and mortgages and all information is considered public record.
