West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana Overview
West Feliciana parish is located in the northwestern part of Louisiana’s Plantation country bordering both the Mississippi River and Mississippi. It is a land-locked parish approximately 426 square miles in size of which 23 square miles are water. The parish area changed hands repeatedly in the 18th century being occupied by the British, French, and Spanish before finally coming under American control with the Louisiana Purchase. The Feliciana split in 1824 was when the modern day West Feliciana Parish was formed. It is bordered by Wilkinson Parish, Mississippi to the north, East Feliciana Parish to the east, East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes to the south, Pointe Coupee Parish to the southwest and Avoyelles and Concordia parishes to the northwest. The Parish Clerk is responsible for circuit court filings and fees, family court information, vital records, voter registration, election results, military discharges, notary public documents, assumed names and personal protection orders as well as concealed weapons permits.
