Washington Parish, Louisiana Overview

Washington Parish is located in the eastern part of Louisiana on the northern end of the Greater New Orleans Region. The Parish is land locked and is 676 square miles in size with 6.4 square miles being water. Named after George Washington after splitting from St. Tammany Parish in 1819. It is mostly bordered by Mississippi Counties including Pike Parish to the northwest, Walthall Parish to the north, Marion Parish to the northeast, and Pearl River Parish to the east. It is also bordered by St. Tammany Parish to the south and Tangipahoa Parish to the west. As of 2013 Census pull the population of Washington Parish was 46,419. The Parish Clerk is responsible for family court information, circuit court filings and fees, vital records, personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, military discharges, assumed names and voter registration. They also handle election results and notary public documents. These records are not considered public record (aside from election results) but can be requested by the individual that they are about, from the office, during normal business hours. They are not available online.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for property related documents such as mortgages, deeds, warranties, liens and leases. These documents are considered public record and can be requested directly from the court, during normal business hours. They are not available online.
