Vernon Parish, Louisiana

Vernon Parish is located in the state of Louisiana. The county was formed on March 30, 1871, from parts of Natchitoches, Rapides, and Sabine parishes, and named after Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. The parish seat is Leesville.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the parish has a population of approximately 52,334 people and a total area of 1,341 square miles, of which 14 square miles is water and 1,328 square miles is land, making it the largest parish in Louisiana by land area. Vernon Parish borders the following: Sabine Parish to the northwest, Natchitoches Parish to the north, Rapides Parish to the east, Allen Parish to the southeast, Beauregard Parish to the south, and Newton County, Texas, to the west.

Willie Deon, Jr. is the Vernon Parish Clerk of Court as of 2015; he is helped in his duties by Jeff Skidmore, Chief Deputy.  The office of the clerk is charged with the responsibility of indexing, recording, and maintaining all public records in the parish. Records maintained by the office of the clerk include but are not limited to mortgages, liens, military discharges, vital records (birth records, marriage records and death records), and deeds.
