St. Tammany Parish is located in the southeastern portion of Louisiana in the Greater New Orleans Region. The Parish sits against Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne that leads to the Gulf of Mexico and is 1,124 square miles of which 279 square miles is water. It is named after Chief Tamanend of the Delaware Valley natives. The Parish Clerk of St. Tammany Parish is responsible for personal protection orders, concealed weapons licenses, circuit court filings, voter registration, vital records, assumed names, military discharges, family court information and election results. This information, with the exception of election results, is not considered public record and can therefore only be requested by those that it is about. Marriage records are available online, however these are only indexes and no images or copies are available. All other requests must be made in person.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for property related documents, including deeds, warranties, mortgages, liens and leases. These documents are considered public record and can be requested at any time. These documents are not available online; however they can be requested and purchased directly from the office, during normal business hours.

The Equalization Department handles assessment and tax rolls within the parish, as well as property lines and ownership, property descriptions, GIS maps, aerial images and surveys. Land indexes and maps can be found online, however other information must be requested directly from the office.
