St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana Overview

St. Bernard Parish is located in the southeast of Louisiana in the Greater New Orleans region along the Gulf of Mexico. This parish covers 2,158 square miles of which 1,781 square miles are water. The Parish is named after the 61st Viceroy of New Spain Bernardo de Gálvez. It is bordered by Hancock Parish, Mississippi to the north, Harrison Parish, Mississippi to the northeast, Plaquemines Parish to the south, and Orleans Parish to the northwest. The Parish Clerk is responsible for information related to vital records, which includes birth, death and marriage records, personal protection orders, military discharge, concealed pistol licenses, assumed names, circuit and family court information, election results and voter registration. All of these documents are available for request directly through the office but are not available online. They are also not considered public record and must be requested by the individuals they are about.

The Register of Deeds is responsible for property related information including deeds, mortgages, liens and leases. These documents are considered public record, however they are also not available via the online system. They must be requested directly from the office during normal business hours.
