Morehouse Parish, Louisiana Overview

Morehouse Parish is located in the northeastern portion of Louisiana in the Sportsman’s Paradise region. The Parish is land-locked and is 806 square miles in size, 11 square miles of which is water. It is named after Abraham Morehouse, a former Colonel in the United States Armed Forces. It is bordered by Union Parish, Arkansas to the northwest, Ashley Parish, Arkansas to the north, Chicot Parish, Arkansas to the northeast, West Carroll Parish to the east, Richland Parish to the southeast, Ouachita Parish to the southwest, and Union Parish to the west. The Clerk of the Parish is responsible for personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, circuit court filings and fees and family court information. They are also responsible for election results, voter registration, notary public documents and assumed names as well as vital records and military discharges. These documents are not considered public record, however they can be requested by the person that they are about.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for all documentation related to property within the county, which includes warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, liens and leases as well as mortgages.
