Lafayette Parish is located in the south-central portion of Louisiana in Cajun Country It is a land-locked Parish with 269 square miles of which only .5 square miles being water. It is named after the French General Gilbert du Montier, Marquis de Lafayette who held a critical role in the United States victory in the Revolutionary War. It is bordered by St. Landry Parish to the north, St. Martin Parish to the east, Iberia Parish to the southeast, Vermillion Parish to the south, and Acadia Parish to the west. At the Parish Clerk’s office you will find personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, assume names, vital records and military discharges as well as all circuit court filings and fees. This is also where you will find election results, voter registration and all family court information. Very little of this information is avialable online and any additional information must be requested, in person, during normal business hours. Information related to civil court records are the exception and can be found through the online records search for a monthly fee of $65.
The Register of Deeds is responsible for any and all documetns related to property, which includes warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, mortgages, liens and leases.
