Evangeline Parish is located in the southwestern portion of Louisiana in the northern portion of Cajun Country. The Parish is landlocked and claims 680 square miles of which 17 square miles are water. Evangeline Parish is named after Evangeline the heroine of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poem. It is bordered by Rapides Parish to the north, Avoyelles Parish to the northeast, St. Landry Parish to the east, Acadia Parish to the south, and Allen parish to the west. The Parish Clerk is responsible for personal protection orders, concealed pistol licenses, vital records that include birth, death and marriage records, voter registration, military discharges, election results, notary public documents, circuit court filings and family court information. These documents are not considered public record, with the exception of election results, and therefore can only be requested by those that they are about. Documents are available online and are also available directly through the court. There are fees associated with all requests, including access fees if using the online portal.
