It is named after Marie Felice de Gálvez, wife of Spanish Viceroy Bernardo de Gálvez. It shares its borders with Wilkinson Parish, Mississippi to the northwest, Amite Parish, Mississippi to the northeast, St. Helena Parish to the east, East Baton Rouge Parish to the south, and West Feliciana Parish to the west.
