The name Catahoula comes from the native Tensas word for “big, clear lake.” It is bordered by Franklin Parish to the north, Tensas Parish to the northeast, Concordia Parish to the east, Avoyelles Parish to the south, La Salle Parish to the west, Caldwell parish to the northwest.
