Cameron Parish is located in the southwest corner of Louisiana along the Gulf of Mexico in Cajun Country. It claims 1,937 square miles of area of which 652 square miles are water. Cameron Parish is named after Simon Cameron, the Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln. It is bordered by Calcasieu Parish to the northwest, Jefferson Davis Parish to the northeast, Vermillion Parish to the east, Jefferson Parish to the southwest, and Orange Parish, Texas to the west. The Parish Clerk is responsible for circuit and family court information and filings, vital records, which include marriage, birth and death certificates, personal protection orders, concealed weapons permits, military discharges and assumed names. They are also responsible for notary public documents, election results and voter registration. Information may be requested by those that are named within the documents (with the exception of election results which are public record) but are subject to a fee.
