Washington County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1792 and named after George Washington, a former President of the United States (1789–97). The county seat is Springfield. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 11,875 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 301 square miles of which 297 square miles is land and 3.9 square miles is water. Washington County borders the following counties: Anderson County to the northeast; Mercer County to the east; Boyle County to the east; Marion County to the south; Nelson County to the west.
