Simpson County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1819 and named after John Simpson, a military captain killed at the Battle of Frenchtown. The county seat is Franklin. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 17,793 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 236 square miles of which 234 square miles is land and 2.3 square miles is water. Simpson County borders the following counties: Warren County to the north; Allen County to the east; Sumner County, Tennessee to the southeast; Robertson County, Tennessee to the southwest and Logan County to the west.
