Metcalfe County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1860 and named after Thomas Metcalfe, the tenth Governor of Kentucky (1828–32). The county seat is Edmonton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 9,983 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 291 square miles of which 290 square miles is land and 1.5 square miles is water. Metcalfe County borders the following counties: Hart County to the northwest; Green County to the northeast; Adair County to the east; Cumberland County to the southeast; Monroe County to the south and Barren County to the west.
