Mason County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1788 and named after George Mason (1725–92), a statesman known as the “Father of the Bill of Rights”. The county seat is Maysville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 17,278 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 246 square miles of which 240 square miles is land and 6.3 square miles is water. Mason County borders the following counties: Brown County, Ohio to the north; Adams County, Ohio to the northeast; Lewis County to the east; Fleming County to the south; Robertson County to the southwest and Bracken County to the west. Mason County Clerk’s Office is responsible for vehicle registration, motor vehicle licensing, marriage licenses, notary bonds, fishing and hunting licenses, collecting delinquent taxes, voter registration, and conducting all elections including primary, general and special elections.
