Livingston County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1799 and named after Robert Livingston (1746–1813), one of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence. The county seat is Smithland. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 9,359 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 342 square miles of which 313 square miles is land and 29 square miles is water. Livingston County borders the following counties: Hardin County, Illinois to the north; Crittenden County to the northeast; Lyon County to the southeast; Marshall County to the south; McCracken County to the southwest; Massac County, Illinois to the west and Pope County, Illinois to the northwest.
