Lee County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1870 and named after Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee, Revolutionary War hero and Governor of Virginia. The county seat is Beattyville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 7,260 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 211 square miles of which 209 square miles is land and 2.4 square miles is water. Lee County borders the following counties: Powell County to the north; Wolfe County to the northeast; Breathitt County to the southeast; Owsley County to the south; Jackson County to the southwest and Estill County to the northwest.
