LaRue County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1843 and named after John LaRue, one of the county’s original settlers and the grandfather of Governor John L. Helm. The county seat is Hodgenville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 14,064 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 264 square miles of which 262 square miles is land and 2.1 square miles is water. LaRue County borders the following counties: Nelson County to the northeast; Marion County to the east; Taylor County to the southeast; Green County to the south/CST Border; Hart County to the southwest/CST Border and Hardin County to the northwest.
