Jessamine County is located in the state of Kentucky. The county was formed in December of 1798 from land given by Fayette County and named after Jessamine Douglass, the daughter of a pioneer settler. Jessamine was the 36th Kentucky county in order of formation. Its county seat is Nicholasville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 50,815 people and a total area of 175 square miles, of which 2.4 square miles is water and 172 square miles is land. Jessamine County borders the following counties: Fayette County to the northeast, Madison County to the southeast, Garrard County to the south, Mercer County to the southwest, and Woodford County to the northwest.
