Hart County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1819 and named after Nathaniel G. S. Hart, an army major and lawyer captured at the Battle of Frenchtown. The county seat is Munfordville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 18,573 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 418 square miles of which 412 square miles is land and 5.8 square miles is water. Hart County borders the following counties: Hardin County to the north/EST Border; LaRue County to the northeast/EST Border; Green County to the east; Metcalfe County to the southeast; Barren County to the south; Edmonson County to the southwest and Grayson County to the northwest. The Hart County Clerk’s Office has many responsibilities which include issuing marriage, boat, hunting and fishing licenses, handicapped parking permits, registering voters and performing other election-related duties. The County Clerk also records and maintains various legal and county records pertaining to the county. These records include deeds, condominiums, corporate records, fixture and other UCC filings, land records fees, land use restrictions, liens, mortgages, plats, releases, veteran’s discharges, and wills.
