Graves County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1824 and named after Benjamin F. Graves, an army major who was killed at the Battle of Frenchtown. The county seat is Mayfield. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 37,451 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 557 square miles of which 552 square miles is land and 5.0 square miles is water. Graves County borders the following counties: McCracken County to the north; Marshall County to the northeast; Calloway County to the southeast; Henry County, Tennessee to the southeast; Weakley County, Tennessee to the south; Hickman County to the southwest and Carlisle County to the northwest. Graves County Clerk’s Office is responsible issuing vehicles licenses, and registration and titling of vehicles. The Clerk also issues marriage licenses, Notary bonds, fishing and hunting licenses, and collects delinquent taxes.
