Franklin County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1794 and named after Benjamin Franklin, the signer of the declaration of independence and one of the founding fathers of the U.S. The county seat is Frankfort. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 49,648 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 212 square miles of which 208 square miles is land and 4.3 square miles is water. Franklin County borders the following counties: Owen County to the north; Scott County to the east; Woodford County to the southeast; Anderson County to the south; Shelby County to the west and Henry County to the northwest. The responsibilities of the Franklin County Clerk’s Office issuing marriage licenses, notary applications and certifications, fishing and hunting licenses, veteran’s discharge, handicap placards, and liquor licenses. Other responsibilities of the County Clerk’s Office are voter registration, holding elections, recording land records, motor vehicle licensing, and collecting delinquent real estate taxes. Land records include deeds, condominiums, corporate records, fixture and other UCC filings, land records fees, land use restrictions, liens, mortgages, plats, releases, and wills.
