Carroll County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1838 and named after Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The county seat is Carrollton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 10,953 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 137 square miles of which 129 square miles is land and 8.7 square miles is water. Carroll County borders the following counties: Jefferson County, Indiana to the north; Switzerland County, Indiana to the northeast; Gallatin County to the east; Owen County to the southeast; Henry County to the south and Trimble County to the west. The Carroll County Clerk is responsible for many things which include voter registration, conducting elections, motor vehicle registration, transfer and titling of motor vehicles, and the collection of delinquent real estate taxes. The Clerk’s Office also issues marriage licenses, fishing, and hunting license. The Clerk also issues Notary bonds. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for recording and maintaining land records such as deeds, mortgages, easements, contracts, leases, liens, and encumbrances.
