Butler County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1810 and named after Richard Butler (1743–91), Revolutionary War General. The county seat is Morgantown. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 12,793 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 431 square miles of which 426 square miles is land and 5.4 square miles is water. Butler County borders the following counties: Ohio County to the northwest; Grayson County to the northeast; Edmonson County to the east; Warren County to the southeast; Logan County to the south and Muhlenberg County to the west.
