Butler County, Kentucky Overview

Butler County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1810 and named after Richard Butler (1743–91), Revolutionary War General. The county seat is Morgantown. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 12,793 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 431 square miles of which 426 square miles is land and 5.4 square miles is water. Butler County borders the following counties: Ohio County to the northwest; Grayson County to the northeast; Edmonson County to the east; Warren County to the southeast; Logan County to the south and Muhlenberg County to the west. The Butler County Circuit Court Clerk is an elected official of the court and is responsible for preserving all records of court records for Circuit, Family, and District Courts. Other responsibilities of the clerks and their deputy clerks are preparing the receipt of lawsuits and papers for the courts, entering judge’s orders, being present during trials, receiving fines, issuing drivers’ licenses, scheduling juries, handling bond money and recording all Circuit and District Court proceedings.
