Boyd County, Kentucky Overview

Boyd County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1860 and named after Linn Boyd, United States Congressman, and Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. The county seat is Catlettsburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 48,886 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 162 square miles of which 160 square miles is land and 2.2 square miles is water. Boyd County borders the following counties: Greenup County to the northwest; Lawrence County, Ohio to the northeast; Wayne County, West Virginia to the east; Lawrence County to the south and Carter County to the west. Boyd County Clerk’s Office Information

The Boyd County Clerk has many responsibilities which include the titling and registration of motor vehicles, voter registration, conducting elections, issuing marriage licenses, and Notary Public bonds. The Clerk’s Office also issues fishing and hunting licenses, collects delinquent property taxes, and personal tax on motor vehicles. The Clerk is also responsible for recording all land records, wills, article of incorporation, military discharges, liens and lien releases, and miscellaneous recordings. Land records include deeds, condominiums, corporate records, fixture and other UCC filings, land records fees, land use restrictions, liens, mortgages, plats, releases, and wills. Other responsibilities of the Clerk’s Office are handling passport applications and photos for passports and CCDW permits. The Clerk’s Office charges $10.00 for photos.
